Over the last few months, plot holders
have been toiling to grow fruit and vegetables for the
table, getting ready for the best-kept allotment
competition and also for the Village Show. This year the
competition prize giving took place on Sunday 30th July
and thanks are due to all parish council members who
organised a very successful event. Two years ago there
was a marked lack of interest, but last year showed a
good turn out, with this year even better. A big thank
you goes to all those who took part. This year we had two
parallel competitions. The best-kept allotment was run by
the council and judged by Mr. Dennis Burrows under RHS
rules. The winner was Mr. John Dunkley; second was Mr.
Trevor Matthews and third was Mr. Pat Joinson. Highly
commended were the plots of Mr. Richard Garrod and Mr.
Mick Clark. All five winners receive a rent-free year
from the parish council. The second competition was
organised by the Association, judged by members of the
Leicestershire branch of the National Society of
Allotment and Leisure Gardeners under their rules. The
winners were the holders of plots 31, 9 and 34
respectively and they received vouchers for use in this
years' seed scheme. The Association, and in particular, Mick, has worked hard to bring the vacant plots up to a standard ready for use. They have been strimmed and are now available. If you are interested in taking a plot, please contact Alison (secretary) on 286 6622.
